SEPTEMBER, 2008 – GENERAL MEETING

The September, 2008 Chamber general meeting will be held on Thursday, September 4th, at 8:00 AM, at Edgebrook Bank, 6000 W. Touhy Avenue, (773) 594-2000.  The Chamber thanks  Robert Martell for hosting this meeting and Mark Freedman from Myron and Phil Steak and Seafood for hosting our August general meeting.  If you want to host a general meeting, please call the Chamber.  Hosting a meeting is great for increasing the exposure of your business.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS’ MEETING

The next Board of Directors’ meeting will be held on Thursday, September 18th at 4:30 PM at the Edgebrook Public Library, 5331 W. Devon Avenue (312) 744-8313.  Thanks, to Katherine Panares for providing our meeting room.

NEW CHAMBER PARKING LOT POLICY

The Chamber’s parking lot is intended for the use of patrons of Edgebrook businesses, not business owners, their employees or METRA passengers.  Several cars have been towed.  Please remember a two-hour maximum parking limit is being strictly enforced (7:00 AM until 9:00 PM each day (Sunday through Monday).  Overnight parking is prohibited and cars found in the lot after midnight will be towed.  Please respect other shopper’s and their right to use the parking lot.

SIGNUP FOR THE BANNER PROGRAM

The Chamber’s Street Banner Program is going great guns and the first 30 banners have beenhung! Applications are still being accepted.  A Standard Banner is $300 and a Custom Banner is $350.  The program includes a five-year maintenance program that covers everything.  A purchase form is included in this newsletter.  The Chamber thanks the following for recently participating in the program:

2008 WELCOME PACKET PROGRAM

The response to the Chamber’s request for promotional items for the Welcome Packet program has been terrific!  In fact, the Chamber is again in need of your promotional items since all our supplies were handed out at Edgebrook Festival 2008! You can drop your items off at the Chamber office or bring them to any general meeting.  This is just another FREE way the Chamber helps a chamber member to advertise their business.

ULTIMATE BUSINESS NETWORKING!

Once again, over twenty Chambers of Commerce and Community Groups are hosting their annual Ultimate Networking Event on Thursday, September 18th from 5:30 PM – 9:00 PM at the Irish American Heritage Center located at 4626 N. Knox Avenue.  For a nominal $15 admission fee, businesses will receive great exposure, unlimited networking with potential new clients and dine on a wide selection of delicious local food!  The chamber is seeking the donation of food items and raffle prizes.  There will be tables for businesses to display their promotional items.   Please take advantage and drop off your promotional items at the office.  If you need additional information about this great event, please call the chamber at (773) 775-0378.

2008-2009 BOARD OF DIRECTORS’ SLATE

The slate of Chamber Officers and Board of Directors for 2008-2009 has been developed and it will be presented to general membership at the September 4th general meeting to be voted upon.  If approved by general membership, the slate will be ratified by the Board of Directors at the September 17, 2008 meeting.  Even if you are not interested in being a Board Director, if you are a dues-paying chamber member and if you have the desire and willingness to be an active committee volunteer, contact the Chamber!  New ideas are needed to better serve local residents & businesses.

CITY OF LITTER NOTICE

Each year, the City of Chicago spends millions of dollars to clean-up litter.  Refuse causes neighborhoods and business districts to look rundown and deteriorated.  The City has implemented an aggressive anti-littering program and you can download it at: www.cityofchicago.org/streetsandsanitation.

CHAMBER INSTALLATION DINNER

The Chamber cordially invites you to attend the annual installation dinner to be held on October 16, 2008 at Myron & Phil Steak and Seafood (3900 W. Devon Avenue) from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.  The cost is $35.00 per person.  This is a great way to meet your 2008–2009 Board of Directors.  A registration form has been included in this newsletter.

BREAKFAST WITH YOUR LEGISLATORS

On October 30, 2008 (7:30 – 9:00 AM), the Edgebrook, Edison Park, Norwood Park, and Portage Park Chambers of Commerce will co-host the annual “Breakfast with your Legislators” event at Blackthorn Manor Banquets, 7280 W. Devon Avenue.  41st Ward Alderman Brian Doherty, Illinois Senator Ira Silverstein, Illinois State Representatives John D’Amico and Michael McAuliffe and Cook County Commissioner Peter Silvestri are among the local and state elected officials who are expected to be in attendance.  A detailed flyer will be included in October newsletter.  Please contact Rita McGovern, (773) 631-0063 to register for this breakfast meeting event.

BOB PERKAUS 5K RUN

The Sauganash Community Association in conjunction with 39th Ward Alderman Margaret Laurino and the Sauganash Chamber of Commerce are once again sponsoring the Bob Perkaus 5K Run on October 5, 2008.  This event expects over 300 runners.  If you are interested in participating in or sponsoring this event, please contact the event

“CHANGE THE FACE RACE” 5K WALK

The American Epilepsy Outreach Foundation is hosting the “Change the Face Race 5K Walk and Run” charity event on September 13, 2008 at the Bunker Hill Forest Preserve (Milwaukee and Devon).  This event promotes public awareness and education and supports individuals and families living with epilepsy.  If you would like to support this cause, please contact event coordinator Kate Merrill at (773) 480-6030.
