The Chamber’s October, 2009 general meeting will be held on Thursday, October 1st, at 8:00 a.m. at North Shore Community Bank & Trust – Sauganash, 4343 W. Peterson Avenue, (773) 545-5700. OCTOBER, 2009 – GUEST SPEAKER
John Eischen, from the Chicago Police Department’s 16th District CAPS Implementation Office will be the Chamber’s guest speaker at our October, 2009 general meeting. John will be discussing community safety and action projects. This will be a great opportunity for you to raise any concerns you have regarding these and other important community safety issues. Please plan on attending and have your questions ready!
2010 BOARD OF DIRECTORS’ SLATE:
The new board slate approved by membership at the September 3, 2009 general meeting, will be voted on by the Board of Directors’ at their September 17, 2009 meeting. AUTUMN MULTI-CHAMBER LUNCHEON:
The Edgebrook, Lincolnwood and Sauganash Chambers of Commerce, the Albany Park Community Center and the Pulaski-Elston Business Association are co-hosting an “Autumn Multi-Chamber Luncheon” on October 8, 2009 (11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.) at Monastero’s Ristorante (3900 W. Devon Avenue). Guest speaker Wade Rousee from the Federal Reserve Bank will provide attendees with an economic update for 2010. See the attached flyer and reserve your spot now!
BUSINESS NETWORKING EVENT RECAP:
The Business “After-Hours” Networking event held at North Shore Community Bank – Sauganash on September 29, 2009 was a big success! The event was sponsored by Sauganash and Edgebrook Chambers of Commerce, the Pulaski Elston Business Association, and the Peterson Pulaski Business and Industrial Council. Numerous chamber members attended and engaged in lively networking, sampled an assortment of tasty hors d’oeuvres and enjoyed a refreshing libation after a long business day. 39th Ward Alderman Marge Laurino stopped in to say hello. Alderman Laurion always makes time to support businesses in her ward! Hats off to Kate Gallagher of North Shore Community Bank – Sauganash for coordinating this event!
POST OFFICE STATION SAVED, FOR NOW?
Recent articles in Nadig Newspapers, the chamber’s own publication and a letter sponsored by the chamber’s Board of Directors that has sent to the Chicago U.S. Postal Service’s District Manager may have lead to their decision to remove, at least for the time being, the Edgebrook retail station from their closure list. A big thank you goes out to Edgebrook Community Association (ECA) president Jeff Manuel and other ECA Board members for bird-dogging this issue and taking the Post Service to task on this important issue. 2009 CHAMBER INSTALLATION DINNER:
The chamber’s annual Installation Dinner will be held on October 22, 2009 (5:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.) at Myron & Phil Steak and Seafood restaurant (3900 W. Devon Avenue). The Honorable Patrick J. Levar, Alderman of the 45th Ward will be in attendance to swear-in the new Board. $35.00 affords you with a primo selection of dinner entrees especially selected for you by owner Mark Freedman!

CHAMBER PARKING LOT NEWS:
As you are aware, Ron Brunelli, the owner of the parking lot that the chamber has rented for the past two decades, passed away in June. The chamber is in the process of determining the feasibility of acquiring the property and keeping it a parking lot. The parking lot is situated at a prime location in a very desirable community. If feasible, the chamber will likely need financial support to keep this a FREE parking lot for Edgebrook’s downtown businesses and residents.
BREAKFAST WITH YOUR LEGISLATORS
On November 5, 2009 (7:00 – 9:00 AM), the Edgebrook, Edison Park, Norwood Park, and Portage Park Chambers of Commerce will co-host the annual “Breakfast with your Legislators” event at Café Touche, 6731 N. Northwest Highway. 41st Ward Alderman Brian Doherty, Illinois Senator Ira Silverstein, Illinois State Representatives John D’Amico and Michael McAuliffe and Cook County Commissioner Peter Silvestri are among the local and state elected officials who will attend. SWEDISH COVENANT HOSPITAL PROGRAM:
Swedish Covenant Hospital is offering women an exciting 12-week nutrition and physical activity program to help them improve their health habits through behavior change skills development. This program will help you: identify and overcome barriers to healthy habits; apply problem solving skills; set lifestyle goals; manage stress; learn self control; finds social support; and create a healthy environment at home.
